TRUMP YMCS DANCE BECAME A CULTURAL PHENOMENON
Trump is a 78 years old grandpa and one should not expect him actually taking the floor and dancing like Travolta or Barishnikov. The dance is restrained to shaking the arms and subtle movement of the body from side to side.
The president elect likes to listen 1970s to 1990s music and have chosen Y. M. C. A. as one of the tracks used during his 2024 election campaign. The music is catchy and the president elect have shaken his arms in the rhythm of the music and transformed it into “his dance”.
The song was recorded in 1978 by the disco group “Village People”, a group known for their use of costumes and inclination to the gay audience, a trait that will soon be used by the mainstream media to claim that Trump has homosexual tendencies, but whoever will be claiming it is not homophobic at all. Well, it will be another first in America.
The group is still going and most of the original components have left the group, only Victor Willis remaining of the original formation. Willis has a mixed stance about it. Once he was against Trump using the YMCA song during the campaign and actually have demanded that Trump stops using it. At other times, Willis is happy to have the former president using the songs and dancing. Meanwhile, the owners of the music are licensing it for public use and the good news for Willis is that YMCA is on the Billboard charts again at number 4 on November 6th 2024, thanks for Trump.
The awkward movements of arms became a phenomenon with football players adopting it as a subtle if easily recognizable message of subscribing Trump for president. The simple movement and rhythm of the shaking is immediately recognized and can be imitated by anyone immediately. This has been seen all around in schools and at Tik-Tok, where thousands have posted the iconic cande.
Trump as a phenomenon creator is not a coincidence. Trump had hosted and co-produced a reality show for 14 years – The Apprentice. This is no easy feat, for the hundreds of reality shows that never get to the end of the first year. Only a handful reality shows survived over ten years.
Trump dance is going to be repeated for the next four years as the non-dancing dance of the 47th president of the United States.
